How To Grow Your Faith In God: 7 Powerful Habits for Everyday

how to grow your faith

Want to know how to grow your faith with simple daily habits? These are the powerful, tried-and-true habits that can help you grow your faith every single day.

I didn’t always love reading the Bible.

I grew up in a Christian home, went to church every Sunday, and believed in God—but for a part of my life, I wasn’t really walking with Him.

I knew all the “right” things, but I didn’t fully understand how to live out my faith or grow a real relationship with the Lord.

It wasn’t until my early 20s, after reading The Shack, that something shifted. While the story itself is fictional, it completely changed how I saw God—as someone personal, loving, and kind.

That’s when I decided to find a version of the Bible I could easily understand and started reading it daily. Not because I was “supposed to,” but because I wanted to know Him.

Since then, I’ve walked through some hard seasons but those seasons brought me closer to God than ever before. And now, especially as a mom of two little kids, I know how easy it is to feel disconnected from your faith.

I’ve had plenty of days where all I could manage was the verse of the day, and times where I felt distant from God and too exhausted to fix it.

But I also know this: staying close to the Lord changes everything.

That’s why I make it a priority (as much as possible!) to spend time with God in the morning before my kids wake up—sometimes 30 minutes, and sometimes 15. It doesn’t always look perfect, but I try to be intentional.

And that’s what this post is all about.

If you’re feeling a little spiritually dry, like your faith has taken a backseat, I get it. But I also know it doesn’t take a huge overhaul to grow your faith again.

Just a few small, daily habits—things that actually fit into your life—can completely change how you feel and how close you are to God.

Let’s walk through 7 habits that have helped me (and can help you) grow your faith and build a deeper, stronger, more personal connection to God, one day at a time.

Maybe this is a new thing—your fresh start to reconnect with God and create a simple routine that works in this season of life.

7 Powerful Habits to Help You Grow Your Faith Every Day

Habit #1: Read the Word

I’ll be honest—reading the Bible used to intimidate me. I grew up hearing Bible stories in church, but when I tried to read it on my own? Some of it was confusing, overwhelming, or a little boring. I didn’t understand what I was reading, so I avoided it.

That changed in my early 20s after reading The Shack. It changed my perspective in a new way, and I suddenly wanted to get to know God for myself. I found a Bible translation I could actually understand (highly recommend the NLT or MSG if you’re just getting started), and slowly, it became a daily habit.

Now, I try to start each day reading the Word—usually 15–20 minutes in the morning before my kids are up. (Unless someone wakes up early and joins my quiet time… because… kids.)

If you’re struggling to get into your Bible, don’t be too hard on yourself. Start with a short chapter or read a few verses in the Gospels. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand what you’re reading. And remember—God isn’t grading you on how much you read. He just wants to spend time with you.

Habit #2: Put the Word into Practice

It’s one thing to read the Bible—it’s another to actually live it. And trust me, as someone who spent my younger years knowing about God but not walking closely with Him, I know the difference.

These days, I’m trying to be more intentional about applying what I read, even in small ways. If I read a verse about patience… I try to be patient and extend more grace when my toddler throws his snack on the floor for the 10th time. (Keyword: try.)

Putting the Word into practice doesn’t mean doing it perfectly. It just means being aware, being willing, and letting God nudge you when there’s an opportunity to be obedient—even if it’s uncomfortable. Each small decision to live out your faith builds spiritual muscle.

You might not feel the change overnight, but you’re growing a deeper measure of faith with every act of obedience. For me, that might look like pausing to pray instead of panic, speaking kindly when I’m exhausted, or just forgiving quickly (even when I’d rather not).

Each small decision to live out your faith builds spiritual muscle. You might not feel the change overnight, but I promise—it’s growing in you!

Habit #3: Pray Throughout the Day

In this season of motherhood, prayer isn’t always this long, peaceful thing. Some days it’s a whispered “Help me, Lord” while I’m bouncing a teething baby on my hip or praying silently in the grocery store.

Just know that prayer doesn’t have to be this fancy or formal thing—it’s just a simple conversation.

My morning routine usually starts with about 10–15 minutes of focused prayer. But I’ve also learned to pray throughout the day—in the in-between moments, while getting my kids snacks, folding laundry, or washing dishes.

You can pray out loud, or you can journal. Prayer doesn’t have to be complicated—just consistent. And it’s one of the most practical ways to stay connected with God during busy mom life.

Prayer is a conversation with someone who already knows your heart. You don’t have to have it all together—just be honest and show up.

Habit #4: Invite the Holy Spirit Into Daily Life

The Holy Spirit is so fun!

I used to feel like I had to figure everything out on my own. But after walking through some really tough seasons, I learned I can’t do it all on my own. I need help—daily help—and that’s where the Holy Spirit comes in.

I usually always start my morning by asking the Holy Spirit to guide me and I just invite him into my day.

Other days start out really hectic and I have to remind myself to stop and ask for help, especially when I start to feel overwhelmed.

It’s not about being ultra-spiritual all day long. It’s about being aware of God’s presence in the middle of real life—in the noise, in the tantrums, in the dishes, in the diaper changes.

The Holy Spirit isn’t just for Sunday morning church. He’s your Helper for Tuesday afternoons when everyone’s crying and you’ve run out of coffee.

Habit #5: Surround Yourself with People of Faith

This one is a little harder for me, if I’m being honest. Before I had babies, I was more involved in church and going to small groups. But after becoming a mom, community got a little harder to maintain. Can you relate to this or is it just me?

Still, I’ve learned how important it is to stay connected to people who love Jesus and encourage me in my walk with Him. So that might look like texting a friend to pray for you, joining a mom’s Bible study, or just going to church even when it feels like work—it does makes a difference.

Faith isn’t meant to be lived out alone. And let’s be real, we all need people who will remind us of truth when we’re running on fumes and haven’t washed our hair in 8 days.

So if you don’t have a solid circle yet, don’t stress. I honestly don’t either. But we can start together and pray for God to bring the right people into our life. He’s faithful like that.

Habit #6: Trust God Through Hard Times

This one hits close to home for me and probably does for you too.

I’ve walked through some really hard seasons—ones I wouldn’t have chosen, ones I didn’t see coming. And I can honestly say that pressing into God during those times is what made my faith real.

It’s easy to trust when life is smooth. But when everything feels like it’s falling apart? That’s when faith is tested—and strengthened.

After I had my second baby, I went through a season where I felt so disconnected from God. I was tired, overwhelmed, and honestly just trying to survive. All I could do was read the verse of the day. But even in that, God was working.

He doesn’t need perfect faith. He just needs a willing heart.

If you’re in a hard season right now, I just want to say—God sees you. He’s walking with you. And even if you don’t feel it yet, your faith is growing roots.

Habit #7: Read Books & Listen to Podcasts To Grow Your Faith

Okay, I love this one because it’s so easy to work into your day as a mom. Whether I’m folding laundry, driving to Costco, or going for a walk with my dog and the stroller, I enjoy having a podcast playing or an audiobook going.

Some of my favorite spiritual growth moments have come while listening to other women talk about their faith journeys. It’s so encouraging to know you’re not alone in your struggles—and you can learn so much even when you’re busy running around.

And if I’m really feeling motivated, I’ll grab a good Christian book (even if it takes me 3 months to finish it because, life). One of the first books that really shifted my view of God was The Shack. It changed my perspective to how personal and present God really is.

Find something that speaks to you—whether it’s a short devo video, a book on motherhood and faith, or even a worship playlist. Feeding your mind with truth throughout the day keeps your heart anchored when life gets loud. This is one of the best ways to grow your faith in the middle of ordinary days.

Final Thoughts on How to Grow Your Faith One Day at a Time

If you’ve made it this far—first of all, I’m proud of you. Growing your faith isn’t glamorous, and it definitely isn’t always easy (especially as a mom). But the fact that you’re here, wanting more of God, means something. It’s the first step to grow your faith—and a beautiful one.

The spiritual disciplines we’ve talked about aren’t about adding pressure to your day—they’re about making space for peace. For joy. For connection with the Heavenly Father who loves you deeply and knows the plans He has for you. Whether you’re diving into God’s Word with a Bible reading plan, or just saying a small prayer while you drink your morning coffee, every moment spent with Him matters.

I’ve been through seasons where I felt super connected to God, and others where I felt so distant I wasn’t even sure what the next step was. I’ve had weeks where I woke up early to read the Word of God and pray before the kids woke up—and weeks where the verse of the day was all I managed. But every time I’ve chosen to show up, even imperfectly, God has met me there. That’s the power of God’s love—it meets us right where we are.

So don’t wait for the “perfect” moment or the best way to do it. You don’t need an hour of silence or the greatest level of faith to begin. Start with what you can do today. That small thing—like a few verses from the New Testament or a small prayer in the car—is a simple way to take a practical step to grow your faith.

  • Maybe it’s 5 minutes of Bible reading instead of scrolling on social media.
  • Maybe it’s whispering a prayer while holding your baby, asking Jesus Christ for peace.
  • Maybe it’s choosing to trust God’s will in a moment that feels uncertain or overwhelming.

Whatever it looks like for you—keep going. You’re building a strong faith, one small step at a time.

True faith doesn’t grow only in the big mountaintop moments. It grows in the quiet, often unnoticed places—in the practical application of His truth in your everyday life. It grows when followers of Jesus choose to show up in their ordinary. You grow your faith when you trust in the promises of God, even when you can’t see how things will turn out.

So pick one habit from this list and start there. And remember: this is a journey, not a checklist. There’s no shame here. Just grace, growth, and the steady, beautiful work of God’s plan unfolding in you.

You’re part of a Christian community. You’re one of God’s people. And no matter where you are in your journey of faith today—you’re not alone.

Keep seeking Jesus Christ. Keep trusting Him. Keep building great faith, one small thing at a time.

You’ve got this, friend—and more importantly, God’s got you.
